1st LESSON – on shore, we start with the theory – how to assemble and disassemble a sailing boat, what are its technical terms and how to sail it. You will get to know all the different boats that you will be able to sail throughout the week! After the theory, we can move on to action !!
Navigation starts inside the Douro Marina, where you will have plenty of space to navigate. You will be accompanied by more experienced students and also by our monitors.
Throughout the week, you will experience other scenarios, such as the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Douro, an area very protected in terms of wind and current. It is also in this place that, at the end of the day, we anchor the boats and play in the water (always with our life jackets!).
The day is long, but we have a stop at lunchtime, so we don’t go to Rio Douro on an empty stomach. It is at this time that we play in the marina for a while, put on sunscreen again and get ready for the afternoon’s adventures.
At the end of the day, we have to leave everything ready for the next day. With a fantastic teamwork, we store and wash our boats, and go back home to be fresh for the following day at BBDouro. Be careful to not forget your belongings!
The week comes to an end. And Friday is the most special day: it is the day when we know how to navigate best on all sailing boats, when we say goodbye to friends and take that last leap into the water with them, and also the day when we receive a diploma and a discount voucher at BBDouro’s Junior Academy. It’s super cool!
Sailing is full of challenges!
- The weather conditions … sometimes the cold, the wet clothes and the strength when it is very windy are difficult to bear!
But the focus is always on the POSITIVE side:
- Constant learning and improvement of navigation techniques.
- Spirit of perseverance and teamwork
- Communication and Leadership
- Making new FRIENDS!
Age: from 5 to 15 years old
Duration: 11 weeks – begins on the 28th of June
