The best summer camp has arrived to Porto, Portugal! At BBDouro, we provide you with a week of outdoor activities, where you learn many new things! Between experimenting with various types of sailing boats, getting to know the cities of Porto and Gaia from the Douro River, to taking lots of dives in the water, this is a summer camp from which you will leave a true sailor!
Dare to experience a week full of fun, in a safe and sustainable environment, as well as friendly for all ages between 5 to 15 years old.
1st LESSON – on shore, we start with the theory – how to assemble and disassemble a sailing boat, what are its technical terms and how to sail it. You will get to know all the different boats that you will be able to sail throughout the week! After the theory, we can move on to action !!
Navigation starts inside the Douro Marina, where you will have plenty of space to navigate. You will be accompanied by more experienced students and also by our monitors.
Throughout the week, you will experience other scenarios, such as the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Douro, an area very protected in terms of wind and current. It is also in this place that, at the end of the day, we anchor the boats and play in the water (always with our life jackets!).
The day is long, but we have a stop at lunchtime, so we don’t go to Rio Douro on an empty stomach. It is at this time that we play in the marina for a while, put on sunscreen again and get ready for the afternoon’s adventures.
At the end of the day, we have to leave everything ready for the next day. With a fantastic teamwork, we store and wash our boats, and go back home to be fresh for the following day at BBDouro. Be careful to not forget your belongings!
The week comes to an end. And Friday is the most special day: it is the day when we know how to navigate best on all sailing boats, when we say goodbye to friends and take that last leap into the water with them, and also the day when we receive a diploma and a discount voucher at BBDouro’s Junior Academy. It’s super cool!
Sailing is full of challenges!
The weather conditions … sometimes the cold, the wet clothes and the strength when it is very windy are difficult to bear!
But the focus is always on the POSITIVE side:
Constant learning and improvement of navigation techniques.
Spirit of perseverance and teamwork
Communication and Leadership
Making new FRIENDS!
Age: from 5 to 15 years old
Duration: 11 weeks – begins on the 28th of June
As sailing takes place in an aquatic environment that is the Douro River, we advise you to take some things to the Summer Sailing Camp to be more comfortable:
Shoes or sandals that can get wet
Clothes that can get wet
Change of clothes for the end of the day
Hat or cap
Reusable water bottle
BBDouro guarantees that all security conditions vis-à-vis Covid-19 are met. Here you can find a document with these safeguards and precautions. In that document, you will find some of the main measures we have taken:
All Summer Sailing Camp Staff will wear a mask
Summer Sailing Camp participants are advised to wear a mask, although it is not mandatory. If you choose to use a mask, you should take at least one back-up, because when the mask gets wet it no longer has its effect.
Every morning the temperature of all staff and participants is measured
Every morning and throughout the day the staff has alcohol-gel for the participants to clean their hands
Each participant will be assigned a life jacket with a number at the beginning of the week, which they will wear until the end to avoid exchanges
Boats are washed at the end of every day
At the end of each week of Summer Sailing Camp, all safety equipment is disinfected
In addition to all this, sailing is guaranteed to be one of the safest sports as it is an activity that takes place outdoors in an environment that is not friendly to the spread of the virus (due to sunlight and salt in the air).
