Navigation and Seamanship Courses
Having as stage of activity the Douro River, and in order to complement the portfolio of offers taking advantage of the conditions and infrastructure of the Douro Marina, BBDouro has a Navigation and Seamanship School, since 2015. With this school, we intend to contribute to the training and learning of the sailors of our Academy, as well as all everyone else, in order to increase the number of qualified skippers in the north of Portugal. The basics of this Navigation and Seamanship School are based upon:
- An effective training;
- A theoretical and practical intensive learning;
- Quality based on a model already developed.
Day Skipper
- Minimum age: 14 years
- Up to 5 meters long with a maximum power of 30 hp (holders of 14 to 18 years)
- Up to 7 meters long with a maximum power of 61 hp (holders over 18 years)
- Jet-ski driving without power limit
- Allows day light navigation
- Up to 3 miles of coastline and 6 miles from a port
Local Skipper
- Minimum age: 18 years
- No boat size limit;
- No power limit
- It allows day light and night navigation
- Up to 5 miles of coastline and 10 miles from a port
Note: You can accomplish the Local Skipper course even if you have not attended the Day Skipper Course, by doing both in one time.
Coastal Skipper
- Minimum age: 19 years, 1 year after finishing the Local Skipper Course
- No boat size limit;
- No power limit
- It allows day light and night navigation
- Allows navigation up to 25 miles of coastline
- Allows navigation from Porto to Algarve or in the Mediterranean coast (Spain, France, Italy …)
Note: You must have Local Skipper license for at least one year, on the date of the Coastal Skipper exam. In other words, there should be a period of one year from the date of the exam of the two categories.
