Portuguese Sailors Arrive at Douro
Today, part of the fleet that will race tomorrow in front of Douro Marina, in Vila Nova de Gaia, have already started training for the weekend race. The observed landscape of the riverside areas of Porto and Gaia gained more color thanks to the Portuguese teams that sailed in Douro River in SB20 class boats.
The diferente boats left Douro Marina, passing by Ponte da Arrábida and then going up to Passeio Alegre. Between maneuvers and driving, this was undoubtedly a full day for our sailors!
Yesterday, at 11:40 am we started the live broadcast of the famous WOW, which took place on the Douro River, in front of Douro Marina.
The video was filmed and commented by Diogo Barros, director of BBDouro, ensuring dynamics during all moments of transmission. We were able to observe the strong will and competetive atmosphere among the 11 teams of Portuguese women participating in this championship.
Today, another Live broadcast will be released, at the end of this 2nd edition of Women On Water Portugal. This moment will be decisive for the final classification. Stay tuned!
Last day of WoW regattas: tough, tight, and undoubtedly epic
The fantastic women’s event that took place this weekend in Porto, at Douro Marina, comes to an end.
It was two days of intense racing, with a lot of competitiveness and a high level of difficulty.
There were also days of reunion, good mood and very good environment both on land and in water. These women showed not only their competitive spirit, but also the importance of maintaining the bonds of friendship. Although we live in a moment when health is the most important thing we can have and offer, these sailors put into practice the motto “we know how to take care”, showing affection and companionship even behind the mask.
The day started with a favorable wind for 2 races and 1 recap. Unfortunately, there were no conditions to make the rest of the playoffs, nor the semi-final.
After a few (long) hours waiting for the wind, we managed to make the Final Four of this championship, in which the first team to win two races takes the cup home.
After 4 very close races, it was Francisca Barros, Inês Torres, Mariana Almeida and Rita Rocha from Clube We Do Sailing who managed to win two races, thus going up to 1st place on the podium. Clube de Vela Atlântico team, with Mafalda Pires de Lima at the helm, took 2nd place home. The 3rd crew on the podium was Carolina João, from Clube Algés and Dafundo, leaving in 4th place the youngest crew led by Beatriz Gago, from Clube Internacional da Marina de Vilamoura.
We congratulate all competing crews, as well as the entire organization and sponsorships that made this event feasible, and certainly unforgettable.
As expected, Lusíadas Saúde honors its motto “We know how to care”, so Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing 2020 will have the hands of experienced employees from Hospital Lusíadas Porto ready to monitor, care for and provide all the health and physiotherapy services necessary for team of employees and sailors of the event.
The east area of Douro Marina will house the medical structure, which will be ready to carry out the daily check-ins of the sailors and organization. This medical team will also be ready to act in case of accidents, either in racing or on land.
The Liga Vela Portugal event, which will take place in Porto, is now on the 19th and 20th of September 2020. The 18th of September will be reserved only for practice sessions.
