Earth Water is a brand launched in a Tetra Pak carton, becoming, in 2019, the first brand in Portugal to commercialize water in this type of packaging. Earth Water is part of the Earth Group and works for 2 objectives:
- Ensuring an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional plastic bottles
- Support the United Nations World Food Program
The main material of the Tetra Pak packaging is cardboard. The card is a renewable natural resource that, if well managed, does not end in nature, and Earth Water uses a card approved by the Forest Stewardship Council (guarantee of responsible and sustainable management). This brand therefore assumes protection of the forest environment in its production. The life cycle of this bottle never ends if it is recycled in the yellow ecopoint.
In addition to the ecological component offered by the brand, 100% of the profits generated by the Earth Group revert to the UN’s World Food Program, which combats hunger worldwide, as well as prevents situations of future financial stress anywhere in the world.
Earth Group has existed in Portugal since 2008 and has already offered, through the United Nations World Food Program, more than 3,650,000 school meals to children in need in countries with severe food shortages such as Haiti, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Bolivia , Philippines and Madagascar. For many of these children school meals are vital as they are their only meal of the day.
Together with Terra Incógnita, a maritime-tourism company based in Lisbon, which has been supporting BBDouro in its growth since the beginning of the year, there was a feeling of mutual assistance to improve nautical tourism in Portugal and work side by side in all new ones. projects that come up.
The desire to improve sustainability is inherent to both companies, and for that reason innovating in water consumption was an accepted project with open arms. Sailing, being a sport with a high physical index, requires frequent hydration. Every year thousands of plastic water bottles are thrown away at both companies. Between events with hundreds of customers, weeks filled with sailing lessons, the use of water bottles is essential. The idea of buying Tetra Pak bottles brings an ecological normality that both Terra Incógnita and BBDouro intend to pass, little by little, to their cities and country.
This change will save over 5000 plastic bottles per year at BBDouro alone.
